Hard to believe

We've been buying various "big wheel" RC trucks, cars, etc. for the last couple years in the hope of finding one that can actually go through grass or over a twig without stalling. We've taken every one back. Our son is only 7 so we weren't going to invest the $250-$350 in the "real" RC cars that have 4 wheel drive and do 35mph+ everywhere and anywhere. We just wanted a cool toy that would work on the rug, and incline and grass and not cost a lot of money. After reading others' reviews and seeing the video of the Cyclaws I thought that if this lived up to half it's hype it might be worth it.First of all, 'conditioning' the battery per the directions has given us something over 20min. of run time by the 3rd charge. For those who have complained about this as too short a run time I have to assume they've kind of missed the point. I frankly can't believe the car has even stood up to the 50+ min. of running we've done with it so far. The videos actually understate the performance. This thing is beyond wild. My son even ran over it with his bike while I was chasing him with it and it seemed like it could take that punishment all day long. The wheels and tires don't seem like they would hold up to a lot of abuse but after serious concrete, and shell rock punishment I don't even see wear!The speed control is all on or off. It's not proportional but no big deal. It's price seems similar to many other RC cars that don't deliver anything close to the capabilities. I got it on sale at Amazon before Christmas and paid $60. That's about $20 more than the 'sale' price of most of the Christmas RC fare I had seen and tried before. Worth it!

Don't buy more than one

We watched the YouTube video on these and my boys wanted them so bad. I checked out a few of the other remote control cars that were equivalent to this and decided that these would be best. We ordered 2 and then found out that they are manufactured with the same frequency remotes and cannot be used near each other. Now I have 2 boys that want to play cars together that now have to be separated (one in the front yard and one in the back). I have owned remote control cars since I was a kid and figured all I would have to do is go down to a hobby shop and get a different frequency crystal, but it doesn't have the kind that you can replace. It's a good car but not happy that they don't make different frequencies. (and yes I contacted the company about it)

This a a fun, super durable RC car. My 5 and 8 year boys love it and would play with it for hours IF the battery life wasn't so poor. This is the reason for the 3 star reason. After the first few runs with it, the car only runs for about 20 minutes at most.

I bought this toy for my 4 years, really good product, very good application and it does a lot with your iPad interectuar.is a little tricky to place their fingers on the base.Eventhough says that does not damage the screen ideally put a good protector.

Big hit!

After a bad experience with Criss Cross Crash & Fast Lane Stunt City, I am relieved to find a track set that works as designed and is a whole lot of fun for the young ones. At a recent b-day party, this toy had kids (aging from 2 to 6) all hovered around it for long periods of time. Its got an interesting track design, a flame colored spinning tunnel, a motorized car launcher, the 'sky jump', the 'sky jump' car starter dropper gizmo, and the flame colored car catcher. The starter gizmo makes it fun & easy to add cars to the track. One time consuming project for the kids is to "test" the zillions of Hot Wheels laying around to discover which cars work best and which cars don't work so good on this track. Others have reviewed that not all cars work on the track is a downside to the toy, while I found it adds to the toys educational value as kids have to learn why certain cars work or not.The toy is not difficult to put together, but the included assembly directions are more of a quick guide. They will not be all that helpful to someone who isn't accustomed to these types of builds. I am very happy to report that there are NO stickers that need to be affixed during assembly. I also considered buying the 'Hot Wheels Speed Racer Sky Jump' as it looked even cooler, but it had several negative reviews and a much higher price. Overall, this toy is a big hit and I would recommend it to any young Hot Wheels fan.It is not clear why Mattel doesn't design this toy to use a 6v wall adapter (probably because electrical cord + child/pet = hazardous situation). Regardless, I didn't want to be caught with low batteries, so I added an optional 6v DC wall adapter to the motor launcher housing and I supervise plugging/unplugging the wall adapter. I also position the toy such that the cord is not going to be tripped over. Now the launcher has a solid full-time consistent 'punch', but I can still use batteries if I ever need to switch back to them for some reason. Note: if you go the re-chargeable battery route, inexpensive re-chargeable NiMH 'D' cells are only 1.2v, not 1.5v, so this tends to under power the launcher.

Flimsy but fun

This Hot Wheels track, like all the others I have seen, is a little bit flimsy and not as well made as they used to be. That said, this is a pretty fun set and my son really likes it. The car starts up top, falls through a ring into a cone of fire and then through several loops before shooting back up to start over again.There a few caveats: Not all Hot Wheels cars will work with this set. It can't be too long of car or too light. It comes with a car that works and we were able to find one other car that works well. The two cars that work will go through the revolutions as many as four times before they will fall off the track at some point. Other cars will fall off at the loops on the first go-round. Also, this set is noisy when you turn it on. Its not a toy you can have running while you are watching TV.Overall, besides the flimsiness, noise, and cars issue, this is a really neat set. It is even fun to just to watch it. If you are aware of the fact that it may not be too durable and the other minor issues, I think this set is a great one to buy for any Hot Wheels lover.

Take the rubber bands off the car!

This toy is a hit with our 4- and 2-yr olds. However...- Of the 6 Hot Wheels cars we have, only the car that came with the set works. (the others are too tall, too light, or too narrow)- It took us a while to figure out that the reason the included car didn't make it around the loops due to the rubber band around the wheels from the packing materials...- it's NOISY!- an AC adapter would have been very appreciated...- The mechanism that is supposed to drop a car from the platform just doesn't work...But the kids don't care about any of this. They love it.

Very tough, fun to play with...

I got this for my 2 year old son. He really enjoys playing "road work" with these. He was excited that these look exactly like the ones he sees on the highways near our house. They are right size, easy to take with when your child insists to take along multiple toys in the car. They are made of tough plastic, light weight, so doesn't hurt even when they fall on your feet. Our digger has survived multiple trips down the stairs. Moving arms are a super plus.

These are awesome! My son is 2 years old and loves trucks. I used them as cake decorations. The are now his favorite trucks to play with. They are really durable and I love that they have some moving parts. Over all a really good deal!

Wheel-Loader is a good companion to the dump truck

My parents bought this and the dump truck for my 3-year son. The wheel loader is a good dexterity builder because the controls require two hands to operate "properly". Of course, my son adores it even when used "improperly". (P.S. I know now the names of more different construction vehicles than I ever thought existed two years ago)

Loads of fun

Of the (roughly) 6 million vehicles which now inhabit our house and yard this has been our son's hands down favorite since its arrival. It's incredibly durable- having withstood both the elements and our 2 year old's use & abuse for nearly a year. He's used it to move dirt, rocks, sand & water- it lives in his wading pool and has yet to rust. I wish other toys were as well made!

The best construction toys

After much research I'm back to the old steadfast Tonka for my 3 year old.These are the best construction toys for kids. I gave it a 4 for the plastic parts. I still have my Tonka loader in perfect condition from 1970, it has a metal loader bucket and mechanism. Although you could argue that the plastic bucket might be more safe if it gets plowed into anything other than dirt or it won't get scraped up from digging and corrode if left out in the elements too often. I like all metal.But these are still just great construction toys. The competitors use too much plastic in places where they'll actually break. They feel like they're going to fall apart unless sitting foreven on a shelf.Kids will push anything to it's limit, at least smaller kids. So expect any flimsy plastic, realistic looking parts to get broken, unless it's building blocks or something like that.There's a difference between hard plastic and softer plastic in terms of durability. Most of the competitor trucks feel like hard plastic. The harder plastic snaps frm fatigue. The bucket on the loader is a bit softer, it's more pliable so it shouldn't snap from moderate abuseI'd also stay away from the Tonkas that look more realistic but are all plastic, a harder plastic, and battery operated. Although alittle more realistic looking, those aren't really made for digging or pushing or anything but pretending to dig on a carpet inside only. Perhaps for older kids who play more realistically than forcefully. I've seen some with all of their realistic brittle plastic loader parts just broked off where they attach from over use from preschoolers.These look much more durable, and they are. My sons still look pretty darn good and they've seen much use.

Flies nicely once it decides to fly

My 8 year old son has used two different RC helicopters from Brookstone. Neither ever worked particularly well, usually spinning in circles before quickly going out of control, then running out of battery power within a few minutes. The Air Hogs Hover Assault unit flies quite well in comparison, and my son was able to get the unit to fly in a circle around him then move forward a few feet before it finally keeled over and dropped to the ground. Once. Other efforts were somewhat problematic.First things first - the remote control takes 6 AA batteries. These are used not only to power the control unit but to charge the Air Hog through a wired connection. The charge takes less than half an hour. You then turn on both the Air Hog and the remote and start moving. To move on the ground, the rotors are spun up to half speed or so and the unit works well bouncing along the floor or other hard surface. It will not work on grass or similar exterior surface, though hard dirt is fine. I'd recommend against efforts to use the unit inside. Unless you have a hotel ballroom as a living space, the Air Hog will quickly run out of room. It moves fast. But you can use it outside only on a completely calm day - any efforts to fly with windy conditions will fail at once.We pushed the button for the Air Hog to hop or fly. This button works sometimes, and not others. After a day of play, we have yet to figure out why it doesn't always work - essentially the button increases the full throttle response to 100% instead of about 50%, thereby taking the unit off. Do this briefly and the unit hops - keep it going and the Air Hog flies. And flies well if it doesn't first hit the ceiling (inside) or fly up 80' in the air and out of range of the remote (outside presumably). Adjusting the throttle is easier said than done so we're hoping to get better at that as time passes.Turning right or left, on the ground or in the air, works quite well and our unit required no trim adjustment, although this is provided on the remote panel. The ship carries four yellow missiles which can be launched with a special launch button on the remote. This works perfectly, though aiming is not easy. Small targets are provided. They are about the size of an old silver dollar. I couldn't do it. I was, however, able to hit the side of my house repetitively while holding the Air Hog in my hand and aiming at my home. Doing this while flying is another story.Flying the unit inside is recommended by the manufacturer but to get good enough for this, you'll spend some time watching it crash into the ceiling, walls, cat, and any other objects that happen to be nearby. Luckily the Air Hog is sturdy and appears able to tolerate this type of abuse. We were happier testing it outside and letting it fall to the grass without harm to anything.The power cell in the Air Hog will keep it flying for a total of 5 minutes or so, and you can keep driving it along the ground for some time thereafter. This seems consistent with other units we've used. It seems to be a fun toy - my 8 year old enjoyed playing with it, and so did I - but I wonder if it will hold his attention long enough for him to get more expert with it.

Three of us put this copter through it's paces in my kitchen, smashing into cabinets, appliances, the ceiling and the floor, and it just continued to fly as well the 25th time as the first. Battery life was about average for this type of toy, recharge time seemed to be between 15-20 minutes (just long enough for the kids to move on to some other activity while it's recharging and forget they were playing with it.) I liked that you don't need a special (proprietary) battery for it. I might have to buy another one so we can have them battle each other!One safety note: I can't wait for the safety people to put this on some list. It shoots projectiles. Because it's a flying toy, you can easily shoot them into someone's face/eyes. It actually seems really dangerous to me, and I've forbidden using the weapons while it's flying.

Good Concept, but Quite Lacking

I have been a fan of Air Hogs since the release of the havoc heli. Air Hogs tried to step up the game by being the first toy company to make an rc car/helicopter. Keep in mind that this helicopter does not have a gyro in it meaning it will not be steady in the air. I found that this RC takes up a lot of voltage which drawl a lot of power from the 6AA batteries (not included) from the transmitter. I use energizer rechargeable batteries and i got a total of 4 charges before i had to charge the energizers. I doubt your average parent will want to keep wasting money of batteries for their child. Flight times were around 5 minutes and a lot of that time was fighting to keep it in the air. it works decent as a car. the car mode does not have a reverse function. the rc includes 8 missile pods that have an effective range of 5 feet. it includes 2 cardboard targets to fire at. a young child would be rough to that cardboard and bend it and render it a useless practice target. i wound up bending my target even though i was being careful. it has a button that lets you hop over obstacles and keep going. that is a useless function seeing as a 10% success ratio of getting it to hop, land, and keep going. (i tried 20 times. so 2/20=10%) and the price amazon sells it for is absurd! Air Hogs had a great idea but it lacks the wow factor as well as fun. steer clear of this rc. if anything your best bet is to go with a fly crane or a sharp shooter.

SO MUCH FUN...Make sure you have one for everyone in the house

My family, my husband & I included, love this "car". It is so much fun and so easy to use that my 2 yr old grasped the concept of it right out of the box. Very easy to put together although one of the back wheels was a bit of a tight fit. I have not taken the PlasmaCar out of our house yet so I can not rate how it handles on the road. My children [6,2,9 months] use it on our Laminate "hardwood" floors, actual hardwood floors, somewhat bumpy porcelain tile and occasionally on the driveway. It definitely deserves the Platinum Best Toy Award that it was given. The only problem I see is that I only have one :)UPDATEKids; 7,3,21 monthsThe plasma car has now been ridden inside/outside on Concrete, Asphalt, Grass, Tile, Laminate, Rug etc...I completely stand by my first review on how wonderful this toy is. I do have to say however the tread on the wheels do not catch well on smooth floors so sometimes it can be a hassle getting the steering wheel to turn the wheels. My kids still LOVE the toy and use it whenever they can. All three have ridden it together they love taking each other for rides. It really is a great product and has held up VERY WELL against my very destructive children.UPDATEKids; 10,6,5Its been a while since I updated this but looking through my reviews I realized this is one I had to update. This many years later crazy kids and many play-dates [with friends who also found this toy irresistible] the plasma car is still running...We have only had one minor issue with the handlebar/wheel that my husband easily fixed. This thing is awesome, I am even tempted to buy another because they all STILL fight over it when they are downstairs LOL! DEFINITELY A MUST BUY FOR ANY PARENT!!!

We purchased these for our 3 grandchildren for Christmas and it was by far the best Christmas ever. All the adults enjoyed riding them as much as the kids. Everyone is purchasing them for their kids and grandkids!! Money well spent!!

Bought 4 cars for my grandchildren (ages 3 to 12, 30 to 120 lbs., 3 feet to 5 feet) They got on them and immediately went everywhere (mystery to me how it works), inside and outside the house. It has been non-stop fun for all. Highly reccomend.
