Be forewarned...

The description for this expansion set does not specify that you will need to mount it in the corner of a room if you want to connect it to the Starter Set. Space is at a premium in our small house (which is part of the reason why we thought Wall Tracks would work well for us....because we don't have the open floor space for a traditional Hot Wheels track). While we did manage to move enough furniture around to make enough space on *one* wall to set up the Starter Set, there is no way we could make enough empty space on the adjacent wall too. I wish we had known the limitations on the expansion sets before we purchased this. These aren't an open-ended design toy. The pieces aren't really interchangeable. The expansions connect only one way and, if you don't have the proper space for the exact track configuration, they will not work. The only thing we will be able to do to prevent this from going to waste is to set this up separate from the other set as a stand-alone track....making it a very short, rather boring stunt.

I bought this and the drift rally spinout track sets (and now that the starter set is available, I'm about to one-click that one as well).The setup takes about 20 minutes and is slightly annoying because you have to line up the attachment points pretty exactly or the track won't work super well -- it's a gravity system and as such, if the track is out of alignment then the cars can't get enough speed and can come to a stop mid-track.But -- once you set it up it is the coolest thing that begs the question -- why hasn't anyone done this before? The 3M strips don't ruin the walls in case you want to move it later (my advice is to buy extra strips (medium size) since the the strips are single use, and the kit only includes 1 extra, and you need 4 for a full install). For example, I used extra strips to stick a track set to the side of the car when we went camping.Play pattern: My kids are 2 and 4 (boys), and they actually voluntarily take turns at "driving" cars through the set. they start at the top (eldest helps the youngest to get the car started), and then cool stuff happens along the route -- in this case the car goes around a corner on a pivot, then through a see-saw bridge and then flies out the gates at the bottom. extra bonus with this set is that two cars can be stored under the bridge. smart. the only thing the kids fight about is the single car that comes with the set, but what can you do.I also like that the brackets are two pieces so that the flat part of the bracket can remain attached to the wall (remember the part about alignment taking awhile) and everything else can be snapped off and put away if needed.

This toy would be terrific if it just stayed together. Nearly every time my son runs his car down the track, some piece of it falls off the wall. It's a little irritating because I have to fix it repeatedly. It was so expensive, it should perform better for the price. Do yourself a favor and get the gorilla takedown version of this toy at Kohls. It's two of the Hot Wheels sets for $20. I paid more than that for just one.
