5Wow! So Impressive!
By Randi Morse
Our son is a huge Hot Wheels fan, so we just had to try this out. We've had small remote toys before - like the Hot Wheels R/C Stealth Rides Power Tread Vehicle - Silver - that tank is still very cool and fun, but it definitely isn't built to go fast. Climbing over things it can do, but speed is definitely a problem. But not with the RC Nitro Speeders. This thing zooms, and I mean zooms. It went so fast at first that our 10 year old had a difficult time getting it under control! He banged into tons of things around the house and every time he did I winced, thinking that it would break - but to my shock it didn't!We love that the car gets charged through the remote (very smart thinking Hot Wheels) and that it only takes a handful of AA batteries. One problem? As another reviewer stated - hair. We have 3 dogs and found ourselves trying to get more hair out of the wheels than we wanted to. The solution? We set up an area where he could make his own track and the dogs weren't allowed to go. We have a little landing and he used that to zoom around and to not have to worry about messing up the wheels. And even better it can go on sidewalks! Just watch out for leaves, because they're definitely bigger than this car!If you're looking for speed, remote control ability, and some serious fun, this is definitely a hit! So much so that my husband now wants me to buy him one so that the two of them can race!!

3Carpet fuzz is a car killer
By Meijer Bjorn
There's so much upside to this product that it is disappointing that carpet fuzz has rendered it useless. The Hot Wheels RC Nitro is a sturdy little Micro racer with great battery life. It is well built, and the controller is solid as well. For me, the controls were a a little stiff. That combined with a very responsive car had me over correcting quite a bit.You can run this car about 20-25 minutes on one charge. To charge the car, it takes about 25 minutes. The packaging the car came in was super tight. It pressed in the rubber on the wheels and had some effect on it's ability to go straight. I would highly recommend being very careful and using a knife or scissors to remove the car.Carpet kills the usability of this product. Carpet fuzz got stuck in one of the wheels which stopped it from turning. All the car would do is go in circles. The plus side is it is easy to open up the car to work on repairs. The downside is after a half hour of trying to get the carpet fuzz out of the wheel I was unsuccessful. A big bummer. If handled correctly this product can last awhile and be very fun. Basically, keep it off of carpet.

4Impressive and fun, tiny. Better than expected.
By Gavin Scott
The car is tiny. Smaller (shorter anyway) than a regular die-cast Hot Wheels car. Weighs almost nothing, yet has impressive performance.I was afraid I would damage the car getting it out of the blister pack plastic it comes pressed into, but the car is sturdier than it looks/feels. It's still tiny and plastic, so one misplaced step and it may go the way of a squashed bug.The system is IR-based, but apart from being on the wrong side of a closed door, or getting it deep under the sofa, the IR receiver sensitivity of the car is really impressive and you never really need to think much about it as it works as well as radio most of the time. I believe there are three different cars in this series at the moment, and each model uses a different "frequency" so different models can be operated together. We only had one to test, so I can't say if there are any IR interference issues with two different ones in use at once.Fresh out of the box it takes about 25 minutes for a full charge of the car's fingernail-size internal 3.7v 40mAh Li-Po battery. Note that the car must be switched off in order to charge, and the switch on the remote/charger/case must be in the charge position (indicated by a tiny lightning bolt that looks almost indistinguishable from the 1 and 0 symbols on the three-way switch). The car must be switched on (obviously) and the remote switched from the charge to the 1 (on) position in order to play.Initial performance was incredible. The car races forwards faster than you would expect, driven by its two 30,000 rpm motors (through a single reduction gear to each rear wheel). The system is two-channel, using differential wheel speed control for steering (the front wheels are not involved in propulsion or steering). The controls on the remote give good proportional control of speed and turning, and low-speed driving is pretty easy to do so you don't have to be going "600 Mph" all the time. The car will require a smooth hard surface to operate on. Very smooth flat/dense carpet works ok, but hardwood flooring or something similar works best. You will need a large area to get it going flat out, but the good speed control means you can operate it in a smaller area if the user has the patience to control the speed carefully and not just slam the control to full speed all the time. The maximum speed in reverse is limited to be much slower than when going forward. The use of differential motor speed for steering means the car can pretty much spin in place and has a tiny turning radius, so it is possible to control well in tight places.Issues we've had so far:In a perfect world you would only operate the car in a fuzz, fiber and hair-free environment, as it suffers from the same issues that plague any small wheeled toy of this type, which include things like small hairs getting wrapped around the axles and stopping the wheels from turning freely. This is especially problematic with the speed-differential steering, because anything that slows one drive wheel more than the other will result in the car turning when you want it to go straight (though as long as the wheels turn at all, you can generally compensate with the steering control but this takes some practice).A single screw lets you remove the chassis to get better access to try to clean things out, but you'll probably need a jeweler's loupe and some really tiny tweezers/scissors to keep things running smoothly. At first, reverse performance was good, but after an hour or so of play it now kind of just chatters and barely moves in reverse (though if you apply a turning input it responds well by speeding up one of the wheels). It's not clear if this is a control issue, dirt/fuzz interfering with the wheel rotation, or what. Each of the drive wheels has occasional issues, but disassembly and cleaning seems to help.Overall performance has been better than I expected it to be.The car is slightly top-heavy, so frequently ends up on its back after striking an obstacle etc.Fun and well made, but the fundamental limits of something this small make me somewhat question its longevity. The ability to store the car inside the remote is cute and helps keep them together, but it may also encourage portable use of the toy in many environments, and under those conditions I really wouldn't expect it to last terribly long.G.
